Happy 2009!
For a few years, I’ve been iffy on the whole New Years Resolution thingy. I’m all for personal improvement but being a capricious creature, by mid-February, I’m off on a whole new tangent with new resolutions to match.
A few months ago, I discovered Christine Kane’s blog. Check it out here. It’s become one of my Must Reads and while digging through her archives, I came across a post entitled, “Resolution Revolution: A Better Way to Start Your Year”. In this post, Christine outlines why resolutions don’t work and suggests a novel approach that will: choose one word to guide you through your year.
For the past few months, I’ve been casually wondering what my word should be. December was really busy with work, school and Christmas; consequently the month zoomed by so fast that I’m not quite convinced it happened!. Now, we’re midway into the first full week of January and I’m still wordless (but not speechless…ha!).
A Day in the Life:
On the last day of 2008, I had the kind of day that I want to mad science multiply and populate the calendar of 2009. Just before driving to Kingston for the Rocking-est New Years Eve ever, I submitted a query letter to a magazine. I also registered for two more online writing courses (the first course generating the article I pitched to the magazine, a short story, a story for children and a poem).
I had a list of words that I thought covered this day: Action, Courage, Direction, Focus, Initiative and Proactive. But they all felt way too sterile and corporate. Idly, I searched Initiative in the thesauraus and found my word.
MOXIE
So there it is.
What’s your word for 2009?
Cheers!
