New Year's Revelations

Hello and Happy New Year!
I hope everyone had a fabulous and unforgettable New Year's Eve!! We were lucky enough to celebrate it in Kingston on Saturday Night and at an intimate appetizer party on Sunday night.

For the past couple of days, I've been busy arranging my myriad of resolutions into categories and trying to figure out ways to track my progress. The overwhelming nature of a complete personal overhaul led me to a New Year's Revelation: Resolutions don't have to be this damn complicated! When Michael Crummey's novel, "The Wreckage" (recommended reading, btw!) was published, the Citizen featured an article on Mr. Crummey. The bit that caught and held my attention is as follows: He jogs every day. Even if it's rainy and he'd rather be on the couch with a beer, he hits the road. He applies the same discipline to writing. He does it every day because it's good for him. I'm going to adopt this simple philosophy for 2007. No complicated tracking mechanisms are required -- I'll just just draw a lil picture in my planner when I accomplish my daily allotment. Easy. :)

My New Year's Resolutions are as follows:
1. To write 1/2 hour every day.
2. To exercise 1/2 hour every day.
3. To knit a pair of socks (this is carried over from 2006).

Now it's time for pictures! First up is a gingerbread house that I made for Geemo's housewarming party in early December. She and her fiance completely renovated their house and it's lovely. The gingerbread house looked like a bit of a handyman's dream but I'm looking forward to hearing about the most important part: whether it tasted good!

Next, here is the progress I've made on the "Somewhat Cowl". I finally have armholes, so the piece looks less like miles of black material and more like a shrug. The progress has renewed my motivation to finish my first sweater, now that I have an idea of what it will actually look like. After another half inch, I'll join the two ends on the circular needle and begin working on the waist.

Lastly, here are a couple of pictures of Artie. The first picture is of him and his gift (a two-foot rawhide bone) and the second was taken later when he was tired from all of the holiday cheer/madness. (note the lack of snow!!)

Erika.
