Resurrection of the Somewhat Cowl (and my creativity...)

...Enjoy the rest of the summer indeed!

Welcome to Autumn, my favourite season. For me, autumn is better than spring. Yeah, in spring you get the mania of warmer weather and sweet smelling wind but that doesn't trump cool, crisp air that smells of smoke, apple pie and Laurentian pencil crayons. I'm not a warm weather creature. I prefer to bundle up on the -40C windchill days and feel like a pioneer on the way to work. Fall is a good season for creativity. On the weekend, I felt like writing for the first time in a long time...gotta keep that little flame flickering.

Rather than writing, I've been knitting like a crazy person. First of all, my "first" pair of socks. They are not the Official First pair of socks...that honour belongs to my brother's croc socks (May 2007)...but the first of the pair (aka: Leftie) was the first sock ever. Rightie came along months later and thanks to my top secret knitting, Rightie turned out much better than Leftie. It's really rewarding to see that I am improving on the techniques that I was just learning so many months ago. I can't seem to post pictures just now so try to imagine a pair of stripey green socks. Now hooooold it in your mind for just a few days til I can figure out what's going on. :)

The second project that I am dying to post is my pride and joy: FrankenCowl. Remember last winter when I tried to make the Somewhat Cowl and it just didn't work for me? It's been on the back of my mind since then but I haven't had the moxie to pick it up again. I'm trying to be more adventurous in my colour choices (substitute purple for black) and in my knit pattern choices. I was smitten by the Vogue Ribbed Minidress in the Spring issue of Vogue knitting but I wasn't crazy about the neckline. One day, I got this crazy idea to combine the two into a fuzzy hybrid in a fab tweedy purple. Here's a shot of Day 1, August 31, with a basic idea of the end product:

This is my progress to date. Eleven days later, it's 7 3/4 inches long...nearly time to separate the sleeves from the body!

Hm...weird that I can't post my sock pics but my dress shots are ok.

In non-knitting news, Joe's job at the Cookie Truck is going super well! The lads work long hours and it's been worth it! They're selling out regularly at the end of the day AND they've been interviewed by the CBC (radio). Here's a picture of the Amazing Mobile Bakery:

Open for Business (7am - 6pm):

Just before opening at the Farmer's Market:

Ok...I'm spent! Have a good night!!
