Yesterday on the way home from work, I popped into the bookstore and found a curious little book called “Ghostgirl” by Tonya Hurley. The book first caught my eye because of the unique cover design (long and thin with a very Edward Gorey/Tim Burton feel to it). I flipped through the book to find existential quotes, gothic illustrations and a fun and twisted tale about the recently deceased.

My book collection has gotten out of hand so my rule is that if I still absolutely have to have a book 24 hours after I see it, I can buy it. Otherwise, off to the library I go.
I’m buying the book tonight.
While waiting til I can get to the bookstore, I checked out the ghostgirl website and again, I’m blown away! It’s just the right tone of macabre and witty. The clever use of words extends to the evocative character names and brief character sketches. Find out who's who at Hawthorne High and don't forget to check out an except!
On its own, the ghostgirl discovery is a good one and as an added personal bonus, it’s making me rethink a story idea that I shelved years ago. I’m inspired by Tonya Hurley and I aspire to create a wholly engaging multimedia experience out of my kids at Hollywood High.
