Tuck into a Nice Long Update
Welcome to October, month of Thanksgiving and endless social engagements. October rivals December for getting together...why is that? I'm not complaining...just wondering.
As usual, life got in the way of blogging so I haven't updated in a while. I can give some fun updates on what's going on in my life.
* I am Unemployed. And I kind of love it!
The funky clothing store/bead store I spoke of was just not a good fit for me. I felt out of place and I didn't care about doing a good job. This got me worried -- what if this job jaded me for ever and ever and I'll never hold down a job again!?
After reading Steve Pavlina, I'm starting to think this is not such a bad thing.

Anyway, after leaving the store on good terms, I feel more emotionally balanced and happier. And I have more time for school which is why I'm on Educational Leave.
* My Next Degree will be Rocket Science.
School's going really well! I love my classes, love the reading, love being challenged! Sometimes I get overwhelmed and annoyed at myself for not knowing the answers to all the questions (after all, at 27, I'm nearly a decade older than my first year counterparts...doesn't that mean I should know it all??) but then I realized that I'm at school to learn the answers to the questions. :)
Right now I'm reading:
Sunshine Sketches of a Small Town (Stephen Leacock)
Wineburg, Ohio (Sherwood Anderson)
Hamlet (Shakespeare)
Lanvin (Marie de France)
Since starting school in September, I have been feeling really refreshed creatively. The crazy person in me has started considering tackling NANOWRIMO again this year. While November is a big month for essays, plus it's my birthday, plus my parents are moving back I'm wondering if those are just excuses...Maybe I should take the plunge again. I have a feeling that I'd be better off the second time. We shall see how things end up.
Essay deadlines are starting to crop up too so I'm devising work plans left right and center! (again, see the pavlina site...I'm boring myself talking about it so much but it's generally really good stuff!!)
Today I finally got serious about catching up on my reading...this seems to be the most effective work plan. ;) My next degree will be rocket science.
* The Ottawa International Writer's Festival
Yes, it's that time of year again! Tonight I ushered for the Criminal Minds event (crime fiction) and got to listen to Louise Penny, David Hewson and Rick Mofina.
Louise Penny talked about creating a character/town that she loves. Creating a person that you would love to spend years and years with and a town that you could live in. That's an interesting take and one that I've never considered. The main character of my 2005 NANOWRIMO epic is not yet someone I would hang out with on a regular basis. I might even screen her calls. Gotta fix that!
* Wedding planning
Self-explanatory. Wow! It's kind of like a part-time job and I like it. The coordination aspects of my old job come in really handy and it feels good to know that all this hard work is going to result in a fabulous day of family and friends.
* Knitting!
I finished one mitten and now I'm eyeing a big bag of yarn to begin my First Sweater!

My goal is to start it today...I have 3 minutes before the clock strikes midnight. :)
Ok, so I'd better run and cast on those first stitches.
