Gimmie the Good News!

Time for the Good News! It’s been spread far and wide to family and friends so now I can post with confidence that no one will find out by accident that Joe and I are engaged! We were out celebrating my birthday with some friends when I was presented with a birthday cake that said, “Happy birthday, Erika. Will you marry me?” Shock! Disbelief!! Mouth moving as I read every word!!! (“Happy birthday” – ok. But wait, what are these other four words…) What a terrific guy – I’m so lucky!

In other news: I was enjoying a bowl of miso soup and a spicy salmon roll at a small restaurant across the street from work today. I was solo so I eavesdropped on the conversations going on around me and noticed that everyone was complaining about someone or something. There’s a lot of negativity flowing around the business district. I don’t want to assume it’s an epidemic but I’ve got symptoms too! My hot temper and irritability at work are the most worrisome.

Nanowrimo is going fabu! I’m on schedule to finish one day early (although I’ll likely miss my installment tonight ‘cause I’m hitting the movies with Skittle! This time, I will not be late!!) I’m half thrilled that I will reach my goal and half nonchalant.

It’s fantastic that I set a goal and that I will meet it. I’ve made an infinite amount of progress and I will finally finish a novel. Those are all great things, and things that I have never done before.

But! On December 1, I will have what amounts to a 50,000 word lump of clay in my laptop. It will have to be shaped (rewrite one) and sculpted (rewrite two) and glazed (rewrite…3?!) before I can let anyone read it. I have also realized that I need to do a lot more character work and research on religious cults.

But! Positive spin, always positive: again those (rewrites) are things I’ve never done before. I’ll learn more about the writing process and hopefully after all that hard work, I’ll have a novel that tells a story that I’m really happy with!

On that note: I’m off!

Have a great day,

Erika.
